I’d Work This: Pink H&M Blazer

another way to ‘work’ that bright pink blazer is to pair it with whites to give it a softer, feminine touch that makes a statement in all the right ways.

I’d Work This: Bright Pink Blazer

so you love want the bright coloured blazer trend (pinks, greens, blues) and want to rock the look in the cube but you’re hesitant. you think it might be ‘too much’. stop the madness, right now! let go of that fear and embrace the coloured blazer!

the secret to making the look ‘work’ is to keep everything else neutral. especially if you are a little hesitant. if you’re a little more adventurous you can mix things up and experiment a bit.

the next two posts will be other ways you might want to try wearing a bright blazer. if you are still in doubt, go to the store and try it on. ask for help. and find a way that works for you and have some fun with it.

in my closet: zara white dress

work-style inspiration:  i stumbled on a pic of kerry washington rocking this white Calvin Klein dress and i was inspired to rediscover my white zara dress that i purchased last year but never wore *frown*. i will have to rectify this.

inspiration

this is how i will ‘work’ my zara dress in the cube:

2010: watch - caravelle by bulova/ 2011: dress - zara, silver bangles - aldo/ 2012: cardigan - zara, handbag - aldo, shoes - 9west

also, i really love wearing white in the summer. it’s a must for me. now i know folks worry about keeping it clean (i too dread getting subway grease on me before getting into the office) but i say it’s worth the risk.

tip: if you’re nervous about wearing all white, then perhaps instead of a dress or trousers opt for a shirt, skirt, or accessories. but don’t rule it out entirely ‘cause you’re missing out!

week-ended: joe fresh maxi skirt + denim jacket

cube dwelling + off duty = a look for a weekend trip to the hair salon. which has been known to take up half my day. not kidding.

2005: denim jacket - roots/2009: t-shirt - gap/2010: sneakers - converse, handbag - winners/2011: cuff - jacob, ring - fragments jewellers/ 2012: skirt - joe fresh

last year i bought a maxi dress and then promptly returned it. i felt silly and…short wearing it. it’s one of those trend not suited for everyone, and definitely not for me.

this summer, however, i’m trying a maxi skirt (without the print) for the weekend as an alternative to the dress. surprisingly, i like it.

week-ended: gap sweater and denim short(s)

cube-dweller + off duty = channelling my inner 20-something self with this look for a saturday afternoon stroll in the ‘hood.

2008: denim shorts - old navy (bought these for a trip to Jamaica)/2011: saddle bag - asos/2012: sweater - gap, boots - steve madden

stacey and clinton would probably have a trash can waiting for me with this look but since i’m pretty sure they aren’t secretly filming me….

Dressing (Stylishly) for the Job Interview

interview attire doesn’t have to be boring. you don’t have to feel like you’re selling out on your sense of style when you don a suit. start with the basics: the suit, pumps, a good quality tote, classic watch and if you are like me, you’ll need your specs. you can then add some interest with pop of colour, pattern or detailing in your blouse.

you’re suit doesn’t have to be black either… i like a black suit because of its longevity - it will take you to many interviews, and worn separately can be paired with so many things to make your weekly workwear that much more versatile.

you’re qualifications got you in the door, and your personality is sure to impress the panel, why not let a winning interview attire give you that little extra something that will set you apart from the rest of the pack?!

remember to keep it classy!

in my closet: red skirt + ruffled sheer blouse

rediscovery: this black sheer blouse from club monaco has these tiny buttons on the shoulders and this angled ruffle at the front that makes it so feminine and sexy… in a cube dwelling appropriate way of course *wink*

2007: jacket - h&m/2010: blouse - club monaco/2012: skirt - jacob, pumps - 9west

also discovered that i love dresses and skirts with pockets… wondering if it has anything to do with me previous obsession with pants…hmmm

style challenge: forever 21 striped dress (round up)

discovery: this was a fun challenge - trying to put a $12.50 forever 21 dress to ‘work!’

my personal style challenge just in case you are just tuning in was for me to turn this dress - that was likely made with my 16 year old cousin in mind - into something that i could wear to work:

this really forced me to be creative (well, so has this blog). i could’ve easily paired the dress with skinny jeans and called it ‘weekend!’, but i think i managed to find simple ways to make it definitely cube-dwelling appropriate.

my 9 winning combinations (and yes, i’m tooting my own horn, what?!)

now that you’ve seen how a $12.50 dress can work out (or how you can steal from your teenage daughter/cousin’s closet and make it work), go ahead, mix it up, switch it up and keep things interesting. you know you want to toot your own horn too!

hope you enjoyed my looks as much as i enjoyed putting them together.
